Introduction
Thinking is an ability all human beings share and few understand.
For the majority of people thinking is done without any awareness of it, very much like breathing: we breath all the time,
without being aware of it, and we think all the time, also without being aware of it.
Incentive for changing this state of unawareness of the supremely important ability to think lies
in the realization that quality of thinking determines quality of life. Understanding of the thinking process and its
connection with experience cannot coincide with unhappy existence. Even life full of challenges need not be unhappy. When
thinking process and its connection to experiences are understood, challenges will be dealt with as they arise in life, but
they will not generate unhappiness.
Since there
is no such a thing as a problem-free life, we would do well to get the next best thing – a life free of ups and
downs caused by our sinking into the state of unhappiness when we are confronted with challenges. This can be achieved only
if we understand and improve the thinking process that underlies all experiences.
This book is not only for people who are unhappy or dissatisfied with their lot. Even those fortunate
few who are already happy and satisfied can enhance their enjoyment of and active participation in life through better
understanding of the thinking process. People who feel even the smallest dissatisfaction with something
in life, those who have a desire that has not been fulfilled, some unresolved grief, some longing, some dream that will not
go away, will quickly reap the benefits of understanding the thinking process.
When we arrive at the place of peace, with quiet joy emanating from deep within independently of what
is going "on the surface" as life's daily events, we can be sure that we have weeded out of
our thinking all that had been generating unhappiness.
If you are willing to
consider the possibility that thinking determines experience, this book is for you. “Thinking
101” will help you understand the basics of the thinking process, and that understanding will enable you to make improvements
where they are needed. That will be a start. You can take the process from there as far as you want. Actually,
there is no end to how far you can take it, and life gets to be better all the time, as you go along.
I have spent 25 years working on this so you don’t have to do it from scratch. I
have observed, experimented, analyzed, read, studied, and pondered the issue of the connection between thinking and experience
until it yielded the results that gave me reason to speak with confidence and conviction that can only be derived from personal
experience.
This book is short, and its contents are easy to follow and understand.
I strove for brevity and directness in order to condense my conclusions into a message that can be quickly
read and implemented. I would have condensed it even more had not the publishing requirements for the minimum length of the
manuscript interfered with that intention.
I am confident that reading this
book will quickly change the way you go about life, and that it will change it for the better.
It
is easy to see that this change would come even faster if reading a book were combined with being coached by a person
who has written it. You have a unique opportunity to benefit from combining theory with practice in what this coaching
package offers. Take advantage of it.
